Health care-associated (nosocomial) infections (HCAI) develop as a result of treatment in a hospital or health care facility and are often caused by organisms resistant to standard antibiotic/antifungal therapies. Outbreaks in hospitals and extended-care facilities may spread to the general community and can cause substantial morbidity and mortality.
Tests generally appear in the order most useful for common clinical situations
