Gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD) comprises a group of rare tumors originating from cells that would normally develop into the placenta during pregnancy. The main tumor types are hydatidiform mole (complete or partial), invasive mole, choriocarcinoma, and placental site trophoblastic tumor (rare). GTD tumors can be either benign or malignant.
Tests generally appear in the order most useful for common clinical situations
Test name: Beta-hCG, Quantitative (Tumor Marker)
ARUP #: 0070029
Methodology: Quantitative Electrochemiluminescent Immunoassay
Use: Aid in management of patients with trophoblastic tumors when used in conjunction with clinical evaluation and other diagnostic procedures
Limitations: Result cannot be interpreted as absolute evidence of the presence or absence of malignant disease Result is not interpretable as a tumor marker in pregnant females
Test name: Beta-hCG, Urine Qualitative
